After continuing its investigation, the National Weather Service determined Thursday afternoon that a third tornado raked through Kosciusko County Sunday. The third tornado was an EF-1, with a path length of 1.1 miles. The maximum estimated wind speed was 100 mph, and the maximum estimated path width was 250 yards, according to the NWS. It started around 3:38 p.m. and lasted about two minutes. The NWS reported the tornado touched down near the intersection of Ind. 25 and South CR 800W, 2-1/2 miles east of Mentone, then lifted a half mile south of Shilling Road. The report states the tornado damaged two homes, including significant roof damage with debris carried northeast. A barn was pushed off its foundation and sustained structural damage to its roof and walls. A metal shed had a wall blown in and loss of a significant portion of its roof. An additional small outbuilding was lifted, with some debris noted one mile northeast. Further northeast, the NWS reported a clear path of destruction was noted in a large hardwood forest with more than 50 large, mature trees snapped and broken. A home sustained roof damage, and there were broken windows and porch damage. The tornado lifted just northeast of this point over an open field. The second tornado confirmed was an EF-1 with maximum wind speeds of 95 mph. It touched down 1.6 miles south-southeast of Oswego in an open field, and lifted just east of Oswego. The tornado started at approximately 3:54 p.m. Sunday and ended around 3:56 p.m. The path on the ground was 1.7 miles long, according to information from the NWS Wednesday night. The first tornado was an EF-2 that passed through south of Silver Lake Sunday afternoon. NWS reported the maximum estimated wind speed of the tornado was 125 mph, with a maximum estimated path width of 150 yards. Its path length was 4 miles. It was located about 2.5 miles south of Silver Lake to 3 miles east of town. The tornado started at approximately 3:43 p.m. Sunday and ended around 3:48 p.m. The state has a website at www.in.gov/dhs for people to report their damage.
