Third-Graders Become Philanthropists

Posted
The third-grade students in Mrs. Underhill’s class at Pierceton Elementary School are philanthropists. In January, members of the Hands Foundations from area high schools visited their class and taught them about philanthropy. At the end of their presentation they told the class they were going to be given $100 to give to a group that they thought could use the money. The class came up with several suggestions and then voted to give it to The Lighthouse in Columbia City. Their director, Tania Keirn, told Underhill they can always use food and meat for their clients so she was presented with a gift card from Kroger’s. When Ms. Keirn received the card from the class she told them all about The Lighthouse and what the clients who live there have to do in order to stay there. The children felt very good about giving the money to this group. Pictured is Underhill’s class is presenting Keirn a gift card from Kroger’s.
