Thin Layer Of Ice Causes Multiple Crashes In County; One Driver Airlifted

Posted

A plethora of accidents kept the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department hopping this morning as cold temperatures overnight created a thin layer of black ice on area roads.

According to Tom Brindle of the Kosciusko County Dispatch Center, Kosciusko County officers responded to at least 26 accident calls this morning between 6 and 9:30 a.m. on area roads.

Brindle said the accidents were not isolated to one part of the county, and that calls were received about accidents "from south of Tippecanoe Valley High School to Syracuse."

This morning all available officers including new sheriff Rocky Goshert and Captain Aaron Rovenstine were called on to respond to accidents.

At least one of the accidents resulted in serious injuries as the Samaritan Air Ambulance was called to transport an injured person to Fort Wayne.

That accident occurred on CR 300E north of CR 1050N near Dewart Lake.

No further information was available at press time.
