Theodore ‘Ted’ C. BastINDIANAPOLIS – On the morning of Nov. 30, 2022, Theodore “Ted” C. Bast, of Indianapolis, died at the age of 71.

Ted was born in Warsaw in 1951 to Barbara Diehl and later adopted by Carl Diehl. He graduated with an undergraduate from Purdue University and later with an Master of Business Administration from Butler University. He became an investment advisor for more than 40 years. He married and raised two children, Andrew and Ryan.

Ted was ready for an adventure in nature at any time. Hiking, mushroom hunting, gardening, canoeing and horseback riding were among his favorites. He was well read on a variety of interests and was always excited to learn something new. He was loyal, supportive and could always be counted on. He loved a great joke and going to the casino when given the chance. He was a beekeeper and avid collector of books of all varieties, neat rocks and marbles. He sowed wild ginseng and was a lifelong student of hardwood tree propagation. He traveled by car rather than plane so he wouldn’t miss anything along the way.

Ted was preceded in death by his mother, Barbara. He is survived by his father, Carl Diehl; sister, Brenda Lamon (Jon); brothers, Carl (Debbie) and Claude Diehl; sons, Andrew (Sarah) and Ryan Bast; his favorite granddaughter, Cora Bast; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be announced and take place after the new year. Ted wouldn’t stand for getting everyone down before Christmas.
