NAPPANEE - Thelma Mowat, 81, of 6823 Filbert Road, Bremen, died at 9:20 p.m. Sept. 12, 2009, in her daughter's residence.

She was born Jan. 12, 1928, in Worrior Mines, W.Va., to George and Gracie Mae Harmon Altizer. She married Earl Thomas Cameron, who died in 1958. She married Lowell "Shorty" Burlison, who preceded her in death. On Oct. 16, 1987, in Louisville, Ky., she married Richard Mowat, who survives in Claypool.

Living in the Nappanee area for 44 years, she was a homemaker and worked in health care and at Elkhart County Landfill for many years. She was a member of Mellonairs singing group, was involved in puppet ministry and directed exercises at the Warsaw Senior Center.

Also surviving are five daughters: Joyce (and spouse John) Sims, Cedar Bluff, Va.; Jackie McCoy, Bloomington; Jolene Teghtmeyer, Bremen; Joanna (and spouse Don) Buck, Nappanee; and Kathy (and spouse Elvis) McReynolds, Hartwell, W.Va.; a son, Jeffery D. Burlison, Wawaka; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three sisters: Edna Soloman, York, Pa.; Eunice Hall, Ashland, Ohio; and Lois Jean Patterson, Hartwell, W.Va.; and four brothers: Hubert and Curtis Altizer, both of New York; Don Altizer, Worrior Mines; and Roger Altizer, Florida. She was preceded in death by a son, a sister and two brothers.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, with Pastor Thomas Padberg officiating, assisted by Pastor Bob Brown.
