LIGONIER - Thelma I. Cook, 81, of Kimmell, passed away at 2:42 p.m. Dec. 8, 2010, in her residence, following an extended illness.
She was born Jan. 31, 1929, in Fulton County, to Fred and Grace Cinnamon Stingley. On April 12, 1947, in North Manchester, she married James Cook, who survives.
They later moved to Kimmell in 1957, coming from Kewanna. She worked on the family farm most of her life. She also worked for several years at Lyall Electric, Cromwell. She enjoyed bird watching, nature, cooking and above all cooking and caring for her family whom she loved dearly and considered them to be her life.
Also surviving are three children, Judy (and spouse David) Clayton and Peggy (and spouse Kenneth) Strock, all of Kimmell, and Larry (and spouse Katie) Cook, Albion; eight grandchildren, Brad Smith (and Carla Snyder), Ron (and spouse Christi) Smith and Kenny and Heather Strock, all of Kimmell; Heather Irwin, Fort Wayne; Tara Lepper (and Mike Strieby), Milford; Nick (and spouse Briana) Cook, Muncie; and Jennifer (and spouse Eric) Covey, Ligonier; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters: Opal (and spouse Vern) Kissinger, Royal Center; Pat Greer, Rochester; and Alice (and spouse Dick) Webb, Mentone; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Mary Kathryn Barden.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Yeager Funeral Home, 1589 Lincolnway S., Ligonier, IN 46767, with Chaplin Robin La Rue officiating. Burial will be in Sparta Cemetery, Kimmell.
Calling is from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to the service Monday at the funeral home.
