'The Vagina Monologues' Returns To Manchester College

Posted
The cast for Eve Ensler's OBIE Award play about the suppression girls and women endure features 27 students and a graduate. Manchester College joins an estimated 1,000 colleges and communities presenting benefit productions of "The Vagina Monologues." While humor surrounds many of the monologues, seriousness is ever-present as the actors remind the audience of rape, mutilation and other acts of violence against women.

"One of the reasons I am participating in 'The Vagina Monologues' is to inform the world of what is going on," said co-organizer Cori Miner, a sophomore peace studies major from Elgin, Ill. "By performing 'The Monologues,' we create an inviting and safe environment to learn what is happening in the world. We also give a voice to the women who have had their voice taken away from them."

Co-organizer is Kacie Gauby, a sophomore psychology major.

Tickets for the two-act play are $5 at the door ($1 for students), with proceeds for the Hands of Hope women's shelter in Wabash. The shelter is organized through Family Services of Wabash County to serve victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse with counseling and shelter. For more about Hands of Hope, call 260-553-4407.
