On June 1, Madison Elementary School had a special afternoon. It was not only the last day of school, but the last day that the building on 201 N. Union St. will house Madison Elementary students. The new Madison School will be open for the 2010-11 school year. There was much joy along with some sadness amidst the students and staff that day. In the afternoon the students all filed into the gym for one last time to watch the end-of-the-school-year slide show. PTO provided water and popcorn for the event. All of the staff and students were wearing red shirts, also provided by the PTO, honoring the old Madison School. A shirt signing ceremony followed the slide show while music played. Mrs. Reichard, sixth-grade teacher, played the Madison fight song on the piano as children sang. Finally, the anticipated balloon drop took place. Several volunteers blew up balloons that were donated by JB's Furniture, Applebees, Lake City Bank, Hacienda and Clevenger Insurance prior to June 1. At the end of the balloon drop the older children were allowed to pop the rest of the balloons. Pictured is Principal Jacob Hoag signing shirts.
