The Warsaw Community High School Homecoming Parade got a little star power to it Friday evening with Ben Higgins (top photo, seated), who was announced as ABC’s next “Bachelor” Aug. 24. He also made an appearance at the home football game. Higgins, a 2008 WCHS graduate and the son of David and Amy Higgins, was eliminated from season 11 of “The Bachelorette” in its ninth week, but had become a fan favorite on the show. “The Bachelor” season 20 premieres in January. According to an ABC spokeswoman Friday, Higgins was not doing interviews while in town due to the production’s “tight schedule.” Higgins served as an honory grand marshal in Friday’s parade, but the grand marshal was retired long-time teacher Jeanne McCormack. Also in the parade were class floats, sports teams floats, the Tigers’ Pride Marching Band and the Junior ROTC cadets (bottom photo). There are more than 100 students in the JROTC program at WCHS. A short free video of the parade, including Higgins’ appearance, is on the Times-Union website at www.timesuniononline.com.
