Tent Revival Coverage

Posted
Editor, Times-Union:
I am saddened, confused and wondering about the very apparent and noticeable lack of coverage given by the Times-Union to the recent Tent Revival/“The Awakening” that happened in our great city a week ago. This week-long event was advertised for the entire Warsaw/Winona Lake community. I attended several of the meetings and though I cannot say I agree with everything that was presented, the very nature of the event itself should have been one that was covered by our news media.

What did the Times-Union miss? A huge tent with seating for 1,000+; enthusiastic music; interesting (if not somewhat controversial) speakers each night presenting subject matter that caused us to think and pray for our community and world; and literally hundreds of our community citizens, young and old, attending and participating. Why was this not given coverage?

It amazes me that we often see on the front page of the newspaper photos of wildlife, meth busts, news about our city officials, motor vehicle accidents, bike races and fundraising “walks/runs” etc., etc. (coverage of some things that only concern a minority) – but the only coverage given this community-wide event was a controversial story questioning the veracity of one of the speakers.

No pictures of the huge tent and crowd; no photos of sponsoring personalities or groups; no summarization of the purpose for these meetings ... nothing!

I love serving as a pastor of one of the churches in Warsaw.  This is a great community in which to live and raise a family.  God has called me here and my desire is to be involved in events and issues that will improve our community. “The Awakening” Tent Revival was one such event.

I will continue to subscribe to the Times-Union with the hope and concern that more thorough coverage will be given to events that truly make a difference for the good of our community and for God.
