Teens Remain In Hospital

Posted
Two of the four teens injured in a three-vehicle accident near South Whitley Tuesday remain in the hospital.

As of this morning, Jarrod A. Lewis, 17, of Pierceton, remained in critical condition at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne. A passenger in his vehicle, Charles E. Shepherd Jr., 16, Pierceton, remained in fair condition today.

Lewis was driving one of two vans that flipped on Ind. 14 during the crash. He and Shepherd were thrown from the vehicle during the crash. Lewis was airlifted to Fort Wayne, while Shepherd and another passenger in the van, Austin Striggle, 15, Pierceton, were taken to Parkview Hospital by ambulance. Striggle was not thrown from the vehicle and was taken to Parkview Hospital and released Tuesday.

A fourth teen, Paul J. Nadolski, 19, Pierceton, was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw, in serious condition Tuesday.

Garret Alan Vande, 18, Pierceton, reportedly left the scene of the crash and later was found at his home in Pierceton. He was not injured in the crash, but he was taken to KCH for a blood draw after police obtained a warrant to test for illegal substances.

Members of the crash investigation team believe that speed was a large factor in the crash, but are awaiting the results of blood draws from all the people in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
