Teens May Face Charges After Stabbing

Charges are possible against two Warsaw teens after an alleged stabbing incident Sunday in Oakwood Cemetery.

According to a Warsaw Police Department report, Alex Walter Oest, 15, of East Sheridan Street, Warsaw, suffered a cut to his head and puncture wounds to his stomach and leg. He received two staples to close the head wound and two stitches in his leg while being treated at Kosciusko Community Hospital, the report said.

Oest and another 15-year-old were apparently involved in the incident, which Oest reportedly admitted to police that he started. The other teen was riding his bicycle through the cemetery when Oest allegedly approached him and punched him, knocking him off his bicycle. The two reportedly struggled on the ground for a few minutes and, during the incident, the other teen reportedly retrieved a pocket knife with a 2-inch blade and only remembers stabbing Oest in the leg. The suspect told police that he was afraid and was otherwise unable to defend himself due to the size difference between himself and Oest.

Although Oest is the alleged initiator, police noted that the other teen used a deadly weapon, and juvenile affidavits were filled out for both teens. The matter was forwarded to the prosecutor's office for review of possible charges.
