One person is dead and five others were injured in two separate accidents on Old Road 30 this weekend.

Chantay N. Rosario, 17, of EMS C24D Lane, Warsaw, suffered multiple injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene of a 2:46 p.m. accident Saturday on Old Road 30E, 1,381 feet west of CR 600E, near Warsaw.

According to a Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department report, Rosario was westbound on Old Road 30 when she crossed the center line and struck an eastbound vehicle driven by David D. Light, 42, of Leesburg, head-on.

A witness and Light both told police that Rosario was looking down inside her vehicle prior to impact. Light also said Rosario looked up and tried to swerve back into her lane of travel, but the two vehicles collided nearly head-on at the drivers' sides.

Light suffered minor facial injuries and was treated at Kosciusko Community Hospital and later released. Police said Light tested positive for alcohol in his system, but the results of a blood test that would indicate whether Light was legally intoxicated were not available today. Kosciusko County Sheriff Aaron Rovenstine said those results would be released at a later date.

Light also suffered some sort of seizure later Saturday and an ambulance was dispatched to his Barbee Lake residence about 10:30 p.m. Rovenstine said the medical problem was probably related to injuries suffered in the accident. No information was available regarding any additional medical treatment.

The KCSD was assisted at the scene by Pierceton police and fire departments and Pierceton and Multi-Township emergency medical services.

The accident remains under investigation.

In a 5:06 p.m. Sunday accident on Old Road 30W, 403 feet east of the entrance to R.R. Donnelley & Sons, near Warsaw, four people were injured in a two-car accident. All four are patients at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, where three of the injured were airlifted after being treated at KCH.

The driver of one of the cars, Eusevio Vargas, 23, of Elkhart, is in critical condition at Parkview, where he is being treated for head injuries.

According to a KCSD report, Vargas was eastbound on Old Road 30W when a westbound car driven by 18-year-old Steven Singleton of North Penny Drive, Warsaw, crossed the center line for an unknown reason and the two cars collided head-on.

Singleton suffered multiple internal injuries and was unconscious at the scene. He is in fair condition this morning at Parkview.

Also injured were two passengers in Vargas' car: Manuel Salazar, 26, of Dot Street, Warsaw, and Ricardo Flores, 28, of Elkhart, both suffered multiple injuries. Flores is in serious condition and Salazar is in fair condition, according to hospital officials.

Police said alcohol is believed to be a factor in the accident; Vargas tested positive for the presence of alcohol in his blood stream, but an exact level was not available today.

The KCSD was assisted at the scene of the accident by personnel from Warsaw police and fire departments and Multi-Township and Plain Township emergency medical services.

This accident also remains under investigation.
