Taxing the Rich

Posted
Editor, Times-Union:
I humbly submit the following letter for your opinion page.

In response to Mr. David Sowards’, Democrat candidate, 3rd Congressional District, insulting letter to a vast majority of residents in the 3rd district, as well as to many Democrats who constantly blame “rich Americans” for not paying “their fair share,” need to recall that when President Obama, a Democrat, took office in January 2009, he had at his disposal a Democrat-controlled House of Representatives and a Democrat-controlled Senate. The Democrats completely controlled the entire legislative and executive body of the United States until January 2011.

During those two-years the Democrats passed Obamacare and the Frank-Dodd financial reform bills – both against the will of the majority of Americans. So, I have to ask: Why? Why, during that time period, when the Democrats had all the legislative and executive power, why didn’t they pass new tax laws to raise taxes on the rich so our nation could be saved from ruin? Certainly, Mr. Soward and most Democrats would have supported this?

Yet, for two years when our nation faced dire financial difficulties, the Democrat-controlled legislative and executive branches of this nation never passed a law to raise taxes on the rich. Why? The answer is plain and simple; it’s obvious; it’s because they didn’t want to.
