There is a lot of talk about eliminating property taxes.
I agree that something needs to be done, but to eliminate them entirely makes no sense to me. In our area, we have a lot of property owners who have lake property and are only summer residents. They get police protection and fire protection. These are appropriate things to be included as a tax on property.
Persons living in cities and towns who are getting trash and garbage pickup from the government agency should be paying for this through a tax on property. We who live in the country have to pay for having ours picked up by paying the companies who provide the service.
Other things which are now included in property taxes definitely need to be analyzed.
Also, it would not hurt if we, the people, would take a sincere interest in our government agencies at all levels and see what services we are getting which we really don't need that are costing us tax dollars and get rid of them.
