By now, Kosciusko County Auditor Sue Ann Mitchell had hoped to have the tax rates for the county so the tax bills could be sent out soon.
But an error by the state has caused yet another delay.
Tuesday, Mitchell told the commissioners the state sent the county the abstract for the tax rates, but the tax rates for Wayne Township were listed under Washington Township. The corrections were sent back to the state Sunday, but the state hasn't responded yet. The tax bills can't be sent out until the state auditor's office gives final approval.
The goal now is for the bills to be sent out by the end of November. Before the state's error, the goal was Nov. 10. Mitchell said the state is holding the tax bills up.
And due to Whitley County being behind in its reassessment, it's uncertain when the tax rates for the townships in Kosciusko County that are in Whitko Community School Corp. will be received.
As soon as the county receives the tax rates, however, she said, they will be posted on the Internet at www.kcgov.com
In other business, the commissioners:
