Tattoo Proposal To Be Reviewed

Nappanee Plan Commission will hear an official proposal to change the city zoning ordinance to allow newly legalized tattoo parlors.

The town has been studying the issue for more than two months after a local man proposed opening a parlor locally.

The ordinance would include restrictions that would prohibit parlors from locating within 500 feet of a residence, church or school.

Parlors would also require approval by the board of zoning appeals.

City attorney Brian Hoffer reminded city officials that despite possible public opposition, the city can't prevent the store from operating within the city.

"What we can do is decide where in our city this would be appropriate," Hoffer said.

The city can also control signage, placement and business hours.
