Taste Of Downtown Sunday, Not Saturday

Posted

The Taste of Downtown will be held Sunday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Center Lake Pavilion. This is the second year for the event.

A story in Wednesday's Times-Union incorrectly stated that the event was to be conducted Saturday. The event will be held Sunday. The Times-Union regrets any inconvenience the error may have caused.

Downtown eateries, including Bistro 'A Lago, Dig's Diner, Dennie House, Kelainey's Ice Cream and Sandwich Shop, Brown Bag Deli, Le Gourmet Chocolate Shoppe, Penguin Point Catering, Mosaique and Courthouse Coffee, will offer samples of their menus.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children, available at the Warsaw Community Development Corp. office, 107 E. Market St., and at the door. Proceeds go to the Warsaw Biblical Gardens. Guided tours of the gardens, east of the pavilion, will be at 1:30 and 2 p.m.

For more information, call the WCDC at 267-6419.

Also on Sunday the Kosciusko County Historical Society will dedicate a marker at the Old Jail Museum, commemorating the original jail building.

Listed in the National Register of Historic Places in 1978, the jail closed and was leased to the Kosciusko County Historical Society for the first county museum in 1982.

At the corner of Indiana and Main streets, the stone building was built in 1870 by Richard Epperson.

The two-story jail was located behind the sheriff's three-story residence. Rusticated stonework and turrets create the appearance of a small castle.

Honored guests include Geneva Latta Brumfield, jail matron from 1951 to 1958; Billie Andrews, jail matron from 1967 to 1974; former sheriff (1974 to 1978) John and Marilyn Hammersley; former sheriff (1979 to 1986 and 1991 to 1999) C. Alan and Sandy Rovenstine; former sheriff (1987 to 1990) Ronald and Debra Robinson; and Kosciusko County Sheriff C. Aaron and Robin Rovenstine.

The Old Jail Museum will have an open house following the dedication.
