I salute you for your valor in the letter you submitted to the editor titled, "Voice of Reason", I am deeply moved.
Voice of reason should be beginning in the way we as citizens view ourselves, the way we pursue knowledge, and the way we participate in the society that we live.
Previously held concepts of conduct and thought should be challenged verbally and in written form whenever possible; and hopefully, fears of being labeled a heretic, or being burned at the stake have been done away with.
New ideas should fill the horizon and citizens should be eager to explore these ideas, freely. We should liberate ourselves from the incapacity of using our understanding without the direction of age old dogmas and talking points. We as citizens should embrace a belief in the perfection of humanity based on reason and clear thinking alone; not relying on mysticism and superstition. Some believe that the excellence of humanity can only to be obtained through grace after death; however, I believe it can be done here on earth through clear and reasonable thinking.
We should believe in a world that is not governed by medieval conceptions that damage society and the evolution of its citizens. As we, the citizens, become enlightened and leave our private world of self and socially induced phantoms. Then and only then can we engage in the reality of life and, consequently, find common ground to deal with issues that stifle our minds and imagination. For ages citizens have used the phantoms and talking points created by the self-serving interest of the stronger, therefore, to form their own delusional theories about the issues we face as a society.
The voice of reason should constantly challenge these age-old conceptions and beliefs about the nature of humanity, and, as a result, find new humane ways of dealing with life issues. Up to this point, the interest of the stronger has formed the conception of life itself. A mythology fabricated for the greed of many. A paradigm made up of yellow journalism and corporate greed. However, with a voice of reason, along with a rational and more humane way of thinking, we as citizens may be able to free ourselves from the shackles of age-old dogmas, and talking points that suppress us as a society.
I salute you Diane Manley and citizens like you for your valor in challenging the dogmas and antiquated talking points, such as abortion. Talking points fueled by the special interest of conservative and corporate America, which stifle the minds and imagination of an evolving society.
