NORTH WEBSTER - A Syracuse woman was killed and two other people were injured in a Sunday afternoon accident on Ind. 13.
Judith A. Rollins, 59, East Hatchery Road, Syracuse, suffered multiple internal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene of the 1:48 p.m. accident near the intersection of Syracuse-Webster Road, north of North Webster.
Rollins was a passenger in a car driven by Anthony Conley, 49, of Gable Drive, Warsaw. Conley suffered multiple injuries and was airlifted from the scene to Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, where he was listed in fair condition this morning.
According to a Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department press release, neither Rollins nor Conley was wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision with a car driven by Thomas F. Ward, 48, East Cornelius Road, Syracuse. Ward complained of pain and was treated at Whitley Memorial Hospital, Columbia City, and later released. A passenger in Ward's car, Sheila K. Ward, 53, East Cornelius Road, Syracuse, was not injured.
Police are not sure why Conley crossed the center line while northbound on Ind. 13 and struck Ward's southbound vehicle head-on.
Witnesses to the accident told police that northbound traffic stopped quickly and Conley apparently was unable to get his car stopped. He reportedly swerved out of his lane and into the southbound lane, where the collision occurred.
The accident remains under investigation.
Assisting at the scene were personnel from North Webster police, fire and emergency medical service and Syracuse Emergency Medical Service.
