SYRACUSE – A Syracuse woman was arrested Wednesday for allegedly falsely reporting that she was raped by an Indiana State Police trooper. Jama K. Brown, 33, of 408 W. Pickwick Drive, Syracuse, is charged with false informing – commission of crime, a class B misdemeanor. Brown escaped a felony charge because the police officer who reportedly raped her doesn’t exist. On March 18, a sergeant with the ISP Fort Wayne district was contacted by the Bremen Post in reference to a Jama Brown who claimed she had been raped but did not want to speak with the Bremen Post, according to investigation documents supplied by the Kosciusko County Court Clerk’s office. Brown told police she had been raped at her home by an Indiana State trooper that she had dated in high school, but was hesitant to give his name. Brown also claimed to be seven weeks pregnant by her attacker, though the report noted that the interview occurred just more than four weeks after the assault. The report stated that Brown was hesitant about filing charges and that investigators made multiple attempts to get the full name of her attacker. When she gave police a name, it was discovered that there was no trooper in the state of Indiana by that name. Further investigation discovered Brown had a history of similar false reports. Brown was booked into Kosciusko County Jail on a $500 bond. The Indiana State Police was assisted by the Syracuse Police Department and Kosciusko County prosecutor’s office in the investigation.
