SYRACUSE – What is believed to be an inert grenade was found at lying in the grass near the Goodwill Donation Box at 203 E. Pickwick Drive,?Syracuse. According to a release from the Syracuse Police Department, police responded to a report of a possible explosive device at about 11:36 a.m Monday. When an officer arrived at the scene, he found a military type grenade lying in the grass. Nearby businesses and home owners were alerted to the threat and were told to stay indoors. Pickwick Drive was closed to traffic. The Elkhart city bomb squad was called in to safely dispose of the grenade. The bomb squad believes the grenade to be dormant, but will not be certain until further investigation, the release states. The area was cleared and deemed safe at about 1:3 p.m. Monday. The origin of the grenade is unknown and remains under investigation.
