SYRACUSE – Town councilmen named contractors for the North Industrial Park at a special meeting Tuesday morning.
There are two phases to the project at US 6 and Ind. 13.
Council chose H and G Underground Utilities of LaPorte for extension of town utilities to the 61-acre site, at a cost of $1.93 million.
Cripe Excavating of Syracuse was chosen for groundwork within the site, at a cost of $887,000.
Ken Jones with Wightman Petrie presented the recommendations from among bids his company received.
Contractors will have to be approved by the federal Economic Development Administration before work can begin, which is expected to take two weeks. The EDA provided grant money to fund the project.
Later Tuesday, the Syracuse Public Works Department found the source of a water leak that for one week had caused the town system to pump half a million more gallons of water than normal. Department Superintendent Jeremy Sponseller said it wasn’t clear what caused the leak in the water main.
Town Council had earlier authorized $7,875 to hire an outside company to find the source of the leak if the Public Works Department could not locate it within the week.
