Continuously serving Kosciusko County since 1854
SYRACUSE - At a special meeting Wednesday, the Syracuse town council approved Mike Hixenbaugh as the new Syracuse park superintendent.
He will assume his duties Jan. 24.
A current resident of Baton Rouge, La., he was born and raised in Granger, Ind.
He received his master's degree in recreation from Western Illinois University and his bachelor's degree in business from Indiana University South Bend.
Currently, he is the assistant area supervisor for parks and recreation of the Parish of East Baton Rouge. His responsibilities there include directing 40 staff members and overseeing more than 400 children at six different centers. He has experience in BMX tracks.
"We're real excited about bringing him on board and he'll be an asset to our team," said Brian Redshaw, Syracuse town manager.
Syracuse has searched for a park superintendent since last year, when Susan Neff left. Redshaw said Hixenbaugh will bring many good ideas and lots of energy to the town.
