Syracuse Man Pistol Whipped By Unknown Supsects

SYRACUSE - Police have no suspects in a Sunday evening incident in which a Syracuse man was pistol-whipped at his residence.

Mike Doyle, 43, of Kings Drive, Syracuse, told officers with the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department that he was struck in the head with a 45-caliber handgun by one of two males who came to his door about 7 p.m. Sunday. Doyle did not know the men.

Detective Sgt. Tom Brindle of the KCSD said this morning that Doyle answered a knock at his door Sunday evening and that one of the men reportedly said, "Open up, it's the sheriff's department." When Doyle stuck his head out the door, he was hit in the head with a handgun, Brindle said, and one of the suspects then proceeded to pistol whip Doyle. He was treated at Goshen General Hospital for his injuries.

The men were wearing ski masks and allegedly threatened to kill Doyle because he killed the mother of one of the suspects. Brindle said it is not known what that statement refers to and that Doyle has only lived in the area since April.

During the incident, Doyle's 10-year-old daughter fled the residence. Brindle said the girl was pursued by one of the suspects, but she was able to safely make it to a neighbor's house, from which 911 was called.

By the time police arrived, the suspects fled the area, Brindle said.

Anyone with information in this matter is asked to contact the sheriff's department at 267-5667.
