Syracuse Man Faces Domestic Battery Charges A Syracuse man is facing domestic battery charges after allegedly hitting his girlfriend several times in December.

Jared Austin Andrew Johnson, 23, of 72504 CR 35, Syracuse, was arrested and booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 12:54 p.m. Dec. 30 for domestic battery with a preliminary bond of $1,000.

Court documents filed Tuesday list the charges against him as domestic battery with a child under 16 present, a level 6 felony; and domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor.

On Dec. 30, Syracuse police officer Michael Bumbaugh responded to a domestic fight. He spoke with the victim who had blood on her face and shirt.

She told officers that she and her boyfriend, Johnson, were arguing when he became angry, pinned her against a glass door and hit her several times.

Johnson told Bumbaugh that he and the victim were arguing when he knocked her down on the kitchen floor, causing her nose to bleed.

Also present in the house during the alleged incident were three children, according to court documents.

One of the children said she saw Johnson hit her mother on the face and that Johnson needed a “timeout.”

An initial hearing for Johnson is scheduled for 1 p.m. Jan. 31 in Kosciusko County Superior Court III.
