Syracuse Man Faces Additional Drug Charges

A Syracuse man free on bond for multiple felony drug charges was arrested again on Wednesday and charged with dealing cocaine.

Robert Evan Miles, 52, of 9427-B Koher Road E., is being held in the Kosciusko County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bond.

The most recent arrest resulted from a call from a rural Syracuse resident who suspected illegal drug activity in the area. Curious about the amount of automobile traffic in the area and having seen someone exit a vehicle and place some sort of package near a telephone pole, the resident told police he went to the telephone pole and found an envelope containing a large amount of cash. He left the envelope where it was and returned home to call authorities.

Police investigating that information on March 31 reportedly found a plastic bag containing a white powdery substance.

En route to the suspected exchange location, a Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department deputy saw a vehicle matching the description of the one driven by the person who reportedly left the cash. A check of the license plate revealed that the vehicle belonged to Miles and officers familiar with Miles reportedly recognized him.

Several officers were watching the location when Miles again drove there, stopped and picked up the package, then looked around, dropped it and left the area. The package contained nearly 30 grams of cocaine, officials said.

Police have said that Miles is responsible for dealing large quantities of cocaine in the Syracuse area. He is currently free on bond in two previous cases and faces several charges, including two Class A felony charges of dealing cocaine, being a habitual criminal and being a habitual substance abuser.
