A Syracuse man was arrested after allegedly hitting someone multiple times and threatening to kill them.
Jordan M. Routson, 35, of 10080 N. Turkey Creek Road, lot 12, Syracuse, is charged with two counts of rape, level 3 felonies; criminal confinement, a level 5 felony; strangulation, a level 6 felony; domestic battery, a level 6 felony; and interference with the reporting of a crime, a class A misdemeanor.
He was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail at 4:06 a.m. Sunday on a $10,000 preliminary bond.
According to the probable cause affidavit, on Sunday Kosciusko County Dispatch advised law enforcement of an alleged domestic battery. A Syracuse Police Department officer responded to the scene and located the victim. The officer saw the victim had blood around their mouth, lacerations around their face and bruising. The victim said Routson punched them and said he would beat them up. The victim and a neighbor said Routson left the residence. A Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office deputy arrived to assist.
The officer spoke with the victim inside the residence. The victim said Routson grabbed them around the throat and made it difficult for them to breath. They also said Routson punched them seven or eight times and pulled them around the house by their hair. The victim said they begged Routson to let them call someone. Routson then allegedly grabbed the victim’s phone and threw it against a wall, which caused the screen to break.
Law enforcement officers exited the residence, heard a loud scream from the residence and saw the victim and others run out to the street. They told officers Routson was still inside the bedroom. Law enforcement entered the bedroom and located Routson, whose hands were red and what appeared to be blood between his thumb and index finder.
Routson said he didn’t know how the victim was injured, according to court documents. Routson was handcuffed and placed in police custody.
The victim was transported to the Fort Wayne Sexual Assault Treatment Center and spoke with a Syracuse detective and a nurse. The victim said they thought Routson was going to kil them. They complained about head pain and they didn’t feel right. The detective saw a large swollen red area on the back of the victim’s head and bruising near their eye, as well as busted lips.
The victim told police about an incident Friday, and some of that information was redacted in court documents.
The victim also told police at one point Routson punched the victim multiple times, dragged them by the hair from the bathroom and threatened to kill them. The victim was able to run to a neighbor’s house to call 911.
