A Syracuse man was arrested Saturday for intimidation with a deadly weapon, battery causing moderate bodily injury and carrying a handgun without a license.
Jeffery Allen Adkins, 25, of 205 Pearl St., Syracuse, was arrested at 5:43 a.m. Saturday. His bond was set at $10,250.
According to a probable cause affidavit filed with the Kosciusko County Prosecutor’s Office, on Saturday a Warsaw Police Department officer responded to shots fired at Time Out Inn.
The officer arrived and found a subject being held down in the parking lot. The subject was identified as Jeffrey Adkins, had blood coming down from his nose and left cheek area.
Shaun Belin, who identified himself as an off-duty bouncer for Time Out, said he was drinking in the bar with Bradley Johnson, who also was an off-duty bouncer for the Time Out. Belin noticed Adkins was causing problems with other patrons. Johnson approached Adkins and told him it was time to leave and escorted Adkins to the front door of the bar. When they exited the building, Adkins struck Johnson with a beer bottle on the left side of his face. Adkins walked into the middle of the parking lot and yelled, “I have a gun, I will shoot all of you.”
Adkins then walked to his vehicle and produced a black handgun and fired it into the air. Subjects then tackled Adkins and took him to the ground and held him down until the police arrived.
The officer spoke with Johnson who had a cut under his left eye. Johnson confirmed Belin’s version of what had transpired.
Warsaw Police Officer Samuel Weaver had a patron approach him and gave him a black Kel-tec 9 mm handgun that had been fired by Adkins. WPD Officer Brandon Zartman located a spent 9 mm shell casing under Adkin’s vehicle.
The officer spoke with Adkins, who denied owning a handgun. Adkins later admitted he owned the handgun. The officer found Adkins did not possess a handgun permit.
