Syracuse Man Arrested for Gunpoint Robbery

ELKHART – A Syracuse man was arrested Sunday by the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department and charged with multiple felonies, stemming from a break-in encounter in Syracuse.

Letcher Burgess Ellis, 19, Syracuse, allegedly broke into a home in the 72000 block of CR 29, Syracuse.

Ellis has been charged with intimidation, a Class D felony; pointing a loaded firearm, a Class D felony; criminal confinement, a Class D felony; residential entry, a Class D felony; and battery, a Class A misdemeanor.

Elkhart Sheriff’s Dept. received the call at 10:10 a.m. Sunday. According to the police blotter, Ellis entered a residence in Syracuse and pointed a revolver at four people in the home. Ellis grabbed the neck of a 19-year-old female, causing pain. Ellis left the residence.

Ellis returned shortly after, and kicked in a door, to get a cell phone that he had left behind. Ellis was later found and booked into the Elkhart County Jail. Ellis is being held without bond in the jail.

The case is currently under investigation by the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department.
