Syracuse Hosts Open House For Primary Candidates

Posted

SYRACUSE - Can't decide which candidates to vote for in the primary election?

Want to get to know the candidates before voting for them?

On April 24, the town of Syracuse is sponsoring an open house for all the primary election candidates, from federal offices to local townships. Candidates are invited from all political parties. The event begins at 7 p.m. in the Syracuse Town Hall and is open to the public.

"I don't think we've ever done anything like this before," said Charlene Knispel, one of five precinct committeemen helping organize the event.

Among the many candidates scheduled to be there include Third District Congressional candidates Jay Rigdon, Democrat, and Paul Helmke, Republican.

There will be no scheduled speeches, just a chance for voters to meet and visit with the candidates.

"We find that's the most effective way," said Knispel. "Just to mingle."

She said the town of Syracuse welcomed the chance to open up the town hall and sponsor the event for all the candidates in the county plus the congressional candidates, especially because of the new redistricting.

"Hopefully, we will have a big crowd. ... I think it's a super thing the town is doing to get people to come out and vote," she said.

Refreshments will be served.

Other precinct committeemen involved in the organization include Susan Myrick, Patty Gammiere, Randy Gerard and Jim Howard.
