SYRACUSE - Syracuse Town Council met in special session Thursday to vote on appointment of the new town manager.

Councilman Bill Musser said it was "a very difficult decision. There were many excellent candidates with resumes being received from as far away as California and Vermont."

But when it came down to the final decision, Jeff Noffsinger, of Warsaw, was hired for the position out of a field of approximately 45-50 applicants.

Noffsinger, currently Warsaw's city planner, will begin his employment Sept. 20. His initial contract is from Sept. 20 through Dec. 31, 2005. He will receive a salary of $55,000 per year plus benefits. Brian Redshaw, the town manager Noffsinger replaces, who resigned effective Sept. 1, was to receive $57,003.61 this year plus longevity pay and benefits.

The council also approved three weeks of vacation for Noffsinger during his 16-month initial contract.

One condition was made in the motion to accept him into the position. Noffsinger will be required to move to Turkey Creek Township no later than Sept. 19, 2005, preferably within the Syracuse town limits.

Noffsinger says that won't be a problem.

When asked about the new position, Noffsinger said, "I'm looking forward to the challenge and new opportunities."
