SYRACUSE - Syracuse Days will take place Aug. 9-11.

This three-day event will include sidewalk sales at businesses throughout town, one of the largest community garage sales in the state, children's carnivals and free concerts.

"The name, Syracuse Days, has changed over the years, but the event has been going on for at least 10 years," said Kristi Plikerd, executive director of the Syracuse-Wawasee Chamber of Commerce.

Along with hosting various sidewalk sales and garage sales, each day also will be used for certain events.

Thursday is the day for the Family Carnival at Calvary UMC from 4-7 p.m. Tickets for carnival games are 25 cents each, and prizes will be given to winners. Also, "What She Said" will be featured at Lakeside Park from 7 to 9 p.m. for a little music.

Friday night, Our Hero's End, Bellwether and So I Prayed will play at Calvary UMC. The cost is $4, and the concert starts at 7:30 p.m.

Saturday is the only day for a car wash. Cars will be washed at Calvary UMC from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and the funds will go toward the youth spring break mission trip. A worship fest also will take place Saturday, hosted for a second annual time by the Wawasee Christian Academy from noon to 8 p.m. in the open space between Pizza King and Calvary UMC. There will be food vendors.

"There is really something for everyone," said Plikerd.

Syracuse Days will end with a free concert at Cross Mill Park, across from the town hall. Free Spirit will perform "Your Wildest Dreams Concert," a Moody Blues Tribute. The show is from 6 to 9 p.m. Food vendors will be available, but bring a lawn chair.
