SYRACUSE - The Syracuse Town Council was in the dark yesterday.
During the council's monthly meeting, the intense storms that moved through Kosciusko County shut down power several times.
Councilman Paul Stoelting, who replaced Jake Bitner earlier this month, was treated with an unusual first meeting. Although Stoelting attended the July 1 budget hearing, this was his first official town council meeting.
The meeting was moved into the hallway of the town hall for safety reasons and was adjourned early.
The council was able to award Reith/Riley the contract for the 1998 street projects. Reith/Riley will do all the paving for 13 roads in Syracuse for $71,333.
In other business:
Police Chief Bill Endler was given permission to purchase a video camera for one of the patrol cars.
The Kosciusko County Highway Department and the Syracuse Street Department will exchange services. The agreement between the county and the town will involve the highway department doing some striping inside the town limits. In return, the street department will sweep some of the roads and housing additions southwest of town.
The Syracuse Parks Department is asking that, due to the excessive amount of litter being found at the parks, people please put their trash in the receptacles provided.
