SYRACUSE - An incident involving the attempted passing of counterfeit money has a Syracuse woman in jail.
Susan M. Ferrier, 49, of 1013 N. Huntington St., Syracuse was arrested and charged with forgery as a Class "C" felony and counterfeiting as a Class "D" felony. She was booked into the Kosciusko County Jail and was being held on a $5,000 surety bond.
On Wednesday at 11:53 a.m., the Syracuse Police Department received a call from a local business reporting that a female had just attempted to pass a counterfeit $20 bill at their business.
The manager of the business was able to recognize the bill as a fake and obtained a license plate number from the vehicle the female was driving. The manager then called the police department and reported this incident.
Based on the information received, the vehicle was spotted and stopped. During the stop, counterfeit $20 and $10 bills were located inside the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle admitted to police that she was the one that was attempting to pass the bill.
During the course of the investigation, it was determined that Ferrier had passed counterfeit money at two other businesses over the last couple of days in Syracuse. It was also determined that Ferrier was making the counterfeit money in her residence.
Syracuse police were assisted in the investigation by the Kosciusko County Prosecutor's Office and the U.S. Secret Service.
The investigation into this case is continuing, and anyone in the Syracuse area that has received counterfeit $20 or $10 bills during the last couple of weeks are asked to call the police department at 574-457-5333.
