Syracuse Chooses Paint Scheme For Water Tower

Posted

SYRACUSE -ÊWhite with green lettering are the colors the Syracuse Town Council chose Wednesday for the town's north water tower.

The council discussed having the "Tree City U.S.A." logo also painted on the tower. If the council added the logo, the council was advised it would be an additional cost of $4,500 on one side. For both sides, the additional cost is $7,500.

If town manager Brian Redshaw can get enough contributions, the council decided, the logo will be painted on one side of the water tower.

In another matter, Redshaw presented a Lakeside Drive resident's request to extend the Palm Drive water and sewer extension project 100 feet to their property.

The town has not awarded the bids for the project yet. However, utilities superintendent Clint Houseworth will get information on the approximate cost to extend the water line 100 feet and present it to the council at its Tuesday meeting.

Syracuse Elementary wants the town to help with improvements on sidewalks and drainage. The town council agreed to do the work if the school pays for the materials. The cost is approximately $6,990 and Houseworth was approved to use money out of the cigarette tax fund to pay for the materials until the school reimburses the town.

The first reading of the 2003 Syracuse town budget will be Sept. 3 at 5:30 p.m.

Members of the Syracuse Town Council are Barb Carwile, Carol Koble, Paul Stoelting, Bill Hane and Mike Davis. Their regular meetings are at 7 p.m. on the third Tuesday of every month in the town hall.
