Posted

A Syracuse man is in critical condition today in Parkview Memorial Hospital after a boating accident Saturday on Lake Wawasee.

Kenneth Brown, North Turkey Creek Road, suffered head and arm injuries and was lifelined to Parkview from Goshen Hospital. He remains in the intensive care unit today at Parkview.

Brown was a passenger in a boat driven by Kenneth Griffith of Ligonier. Griffith reportedly was uninjured.

According to investigators from the Department of Natural Resources, a boat driven by Rodney C. Scott, Pierceton, was traveling at an estimated 50 to 60 miles per hour around 9 p.m. Saturday when it struck a boat that had stopped near the sandbar on Lake Wawasee.

Upon impact Scott's boat reportedly went airborne and ran over the top of Griffith's boat, striking Brown. Griffith was able to jump overboard before the collision.

Scott and Brown were taken to Goshen Hospital, and Brown went by helicopter to Parkview. Scott suffered injuries to his neck, back, left ankle and foot. He was kept overnight for observation and later released.

The DNR said alcohol was not a factor in the accident, which remains under investigation.
