Syracuse Approves Insurance Contract

Posted
SYRACUSE - Syracuse Town Council conducted a relatively short end-of-year meeting Thursday to clear up a few issues left on the agenda from previous sessions.

The awarding of the contract for the town's property, auto and liability insurance, discussed, but tabled, during the previous December meeting, was approved Thursday for Downey Insurance, at a cost of $50,349.

The other major issue previously discussed at the previous meeting was proposed Ordinance 07-13, the employee benefit package. Due to the inability to gain a clear understanding of how overtime pay is handled in regard to holidays, the council decided the ordinance should be tabled again. The council will seek more information before taking the issue up after the first of the year.

The council appointed park board member Kip Schumm to the library board. This is a four-year appointment and requires council's approval.

Year-end claims for December, in the amount of $25,011.41, were approved.

The council also took up the issue of an extensive list of encumbrances for outstanding purchase orders from various town departments. Additional encumbrances, involving cumulative storm sewer costs, are $3,000 for on-site engineering services to Wightman Petrie, and $3,000 for contracted services to Bob's Services. This puts the grand total for 2007 encumbrances at $232,485.45. This total was approved by the council.

Syracuse Town Council members are Larry Siegel, Bill Musser, Cassie Cowan, Brian Woody and Paul Stoelting.
