The Symphony of the Lakes String Quartet is an ensemble of principal artists from the Wagon Wheel Symphony of the Lakes, a professional orchestra based in Warsaw and Winona Lake. The quartet plays classical concerts and is available for private events, as well, according to a news release from the Wagon Wheel Center for the Arts.
The Saturday program will open with a Joseph Haydn quartet in C major, and will include “Lullaby for String Quartet” by George Gershwin and will conclude with Felix Mendelssohn’s “String Quartet No. 2 in A Minor, Op. 13.”
Members of the quartet include violinists Shana Brath and Emily Thompson, violist Lyn Buschert, and cellist Lara Turner. Brath is concertmaster of the Wagon Wheel Symphony of the Lakes and teaches strings in the Winona Lake/Warsaw area.
Thompson, from Fort Wayne, is principal second violin with Symphony of the Lakes and also teaches and performs with other groups. Buschert is from Goshen, and plays with several groups in the Elkhart and Goshen area. Turner is an active player and teacher in symphonies and colleges in South Bend and southern Michigan.
The next performance of the full Symphony of the Lakes will be Oct. 7 at 8 p.m. in the Winona Heritage Room. The orchestra, under the baton of Maestro Jason Luke Thompson, will include numbers by the NoName Quartet, the winner of a recent Young Artist Competition, and the featured work will be Dvořák's Symphony No. 9, also known as "From the New World.”
Tickets for all performances are available through the Wagon Wheel box office, online at WagonWheel.org, or by calling 574-267-8041.
