Sylvia S. “Barb” Whitaker, 76, of Silver Lake, died at 6:51 p.m. June 5, 2012, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.
She was born Jan. 16, 1936, in Salyersville, Ky., to Claude Hunley and Virginia LeMaster Blanton. On Jan. 28, 1954, she married Ben F. Whitaker, who died Feb. 4, 1998.
A resident of Kosciusko County since 1954, she was a homemaker and briefly worked at Gatke Corp., Warsaw. She attended First Freewill Baptist Church of Kosciusko County, Claypool.
Surviving are a son, Harvey (and spouse Lisa) Whitaker, Columbia City; two daughters, Wilma (and spouse Keith) Hale and Rhonda (and spouse John) Perkins, all of Warsaw; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Paul (and spouse Rose) Blanton, North Manchester. She also was preceded in death by a daughter.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at first Freewill Baptist Church of Kosciusko County, Claypool, with Pastor Terry Bradford officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
