Swimming Roundup: Blazers Sweep Wawasee; Lady Warriors Win NLC FinaleGOSHEN – Paige Miler and Shelby Adams were double winners for the Lady Warriors, and Brady Robinson won twice for the boys team in Saturday’s swim meet with Elkhart Central at Goshen. The Blazers won over the Wawasee boys 101-85, and the RedHawks’ boys team beat the Warriors 100-83 in a Northern Lakes Conference competition. The Lady Blazers beat Wawasee 100-83, but the Lady Warriors claimed a 107-79 win over Goshen. Miller won the 100 and 500 freestyle races, and Adams won the 100 breaststroke. Robinson took the 100 butterfly and the 200 IM. Jared Krugman won the 500 freestyle. The Warriors will next compete in the NLC Meet. The girls meet begins with preliminaries Thursday and finals on Saturday. The boys prelims will be Jan. 26 and the finals Jan. 28.
Tiger Swimmers Fall In NLC Finales The Warsaw Tigers boys and girls swim teams wrapped up Northern Lakes Conference dual competition with a pair of losses to visiting Concord Saturday. The girls team fell 130-56 and the boys lost 105-78. “I was hoping for more of a fight out of the girls team today, but they looked pretty tired,” head coach Anthony DeBrota said. “Overall, I was pleased with how they swam; times could have been better, but I won't let it take away how they did during practices this week. I think turns were probably the biggest issue, with slowing and gliding. “Diving was good with Emma Pena getting a personal best, and we still had decent swims like Lauren Kuhl in the 500 free, Brenna Morgan in the freestyle sprints, and Laurel Moeller in the breaststroke. I think they will be looking forward to the conference meet this weekend and are hoping to preform much better. “ The story was very similar for the Tiger boys, according to DeBrota. “About the same as the girls' team. They looked tired, but I did like the determination at the second half of the meet. They kept putting in effort and that showed in their results. Turns were a struggle,” he said. “Cameron Bowell had a personal best in diving. Hudson Snyder swam well in the distance free events, while Nick Zogbi swam strong in the 200 IM and 100 backstroke. Alex Cook helped in the sprint freestyle events and Jacob LaLonde contributed with a solid time in the 100 free.” The girls team stands at 7-2 overall, and finished 5-2 in the NLC. The preliminaries for the girls NLC meet are Thursday, with the finals on Saturday at Northridge. The Tiger boys are 8-2 overall and 5-2 in the conference. Next up for them is a home dual with Culver Academies on Jan. 17.
