Five local schools competed in the preliminary round of the boys swimming sectional Thursday at Wawasee Middle School.
Two local swimmers took first-place finishes in the preliminary round.
Manchester's Rod Smith took top honors in the 100 backstroke with a time of 56.01 seconds. Smith also finished second in the 200 freestyle.
Warsaw's Adam Helfrich swam to a first-place finish in the 100 butterfly with his time of 56.34 seconds. Helfrich was third in the 200 freestyle.
Other Warsaw finishers include Justin Lowrance who was second in the 50 and 100 freestyle events. The Tigers were second in the 200 and 400 freestyle relay events.
Wawasee got second-place finishes from Guy Simmons in the 100 backstroke, and Adam Brown in the 100 breaststroke and 200 individual medley.
Triton's lone swimmer, Scott Shirey, swam to a third-place finish in the 100 backstroke.
Championship and consolation rounds begin Saturday at 2 p.m. Diving begins at 9 a.m.
