The South Whitley Elementary Academic Math Bowl Teams recently competed in area and state competition at the Honeywell Center in Wabash. The fifth-grade team finished second among seven teams in the small school regional K-5 division. They ranked in the top 24 percent of their division statewide, placing 31st of 130 teams. Team members included Emily Chairez, Tabitha Coffelt, Brandon Easterday, Maren Lehman, Angel Moyer, Logan O'Hara, Tanner O'Reilly, Breanna Parker and Marvin Schwartz. The fourth grade faced some stiff competition in their first year having to compete against fifth-grade teams. They were ranked 116 statewide. Team members were Cade Bechtold, Micah Cokl, Kiara Galloway, Zach Gardner, Holly Hathaway, Mason Meyer, Zakk Neer, Jarrett Ocken, Ben Reeser and Nathan Smith. The teams were coached by Tasha Kinney and Terrill Brown.
