Swanson Waives Initial Hearing

Posted
Joe Garrett Swanson waived his right to an initial hearing this morning.

Swanson was scheduled for an initial hearing in his aggravated battery, a Class B felony, case, today.

On Wednesday, J. Brad Voelz entered his appearance as Swanson’s attorney. With his appearance, Voelz waived Swanson’s initial hearing.

Swanson was arrested early Friday morning in relation to a bar fight in downtown Warsaw. Swanson was seen by Warsaw Police Department officers punching Nicholas S. Phillips in the face, then running away. Swanson allegedly broke Phillips’ jaw, nose and caused bleeding in the brain.

Phillips was transported to Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne in serious condition. Phillips was listed in fair condition Wednesday.

Swanson turned himself in Friday and bonded out the same day.

If convicted of aggravated battery, Swanson could serve six to 20 years in prison.
