Warsaw Community High School senior John Swanson has signed a letter of intent to attend play basketball at Grace College. Swanson was a key figure for this year’s Tiger basketball team that won the sectional championship. Swanson earned the varsity basketball coach’s award, was named the Most Improved Player, and received the award for the best 2-point field goal percentage for the Tigers this season. While Swanson was a solid force on the court for both play and team chemistry, the senior leader also made a strong impact on those around him in the community throughout the year and in his career in Warsaw schools. A member of the National Honor Society (Public Relations Officer), Swanson was also involved with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the WLGBC Youth Group, the National Society of High School Scholars Young Men’s Christian Association and the WLGBC Children’s Church. A scholar-athlete and member of Tiger basketball for all four years, Swanson was named Channel 46 student Athlete of the Week this year. Proving his leadership and abilities on the court and community, Swanson’s carried that same diligent approach to the classroom, where he earned an 11.38 GPA on a 12-point scale while enrolled in numerous Advanced Placement and Honors courses. At Grace College, Swasnon will play for veteran coach Jim Kessler. The Lancers finished second this season in the Crossroads League and advanced to the Final Four of the NAIA Division II National Tournament in Branson, Mo.
