Warsaw has had its first incident involving two men in a white Astro-type van seen previously in Whitley County.
In the Whitley County incident Friday, a man approached a woman's home and asked her to smell a substance in a spray bottle.
The man reportedly told the woman it was a type of cleaning solution.
When the woman got a whiff of the substance, she became dizzy and naseaus. The woman closed the door and was able to retrieve her cell phone and call 911.
When the man saw her on the phone, he ran back to the van and fled.
Around 8 p.m. Wednesday, a Warsaw woman answered her door to find a man standing about five feet away.
A white van was parked in her driveway.
She reported he was wearing what appeared to be a sock hat and tried to start a conversation. He appeared to be in his 30s to 40s.
The woman did not report seeing a spray bottle.
Upon seeing the van, she immediately closed and locked the door and called 911.
Units from the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department, Warsaw Police Department and the Winona Lake Police Department immediately responded to the call, but the suspects or the van could not be located.
"From our standpoint," said Sgt. Chad Hill, public information officer of the Sheriff's Department, "don't open your door to anyone you don't know. If someone needs help, call 911. Don't let someone you don't know into your house."
