Suspicious Package At Post Office Rendered Safe By InvestigatorsA suspicious package placed on the dock of the United States Postal Service in Warsaw was rendered safe by Thursday evening.

At approximately 2:33 p.m. Thursday, Warsaw Police Department was notified of a suspicious package on the property of the United States Postal Service by USPS employees at 365 W. Market St., Warsaw.

The post office was closed for the investigation. Warsaw police asked that foot and vehicle traffic stay clear of the area while the investigation continued.

A news release from WPD Public Information Officer Det./Sgt. Brad Kellar shortly before 6 p.m. said WPD investigators were assisted on the scene by the Indiana State Police Explosive Ordinance Disposal Team, as well as Explosive Ordnance Disposal members of the Federal Bureau of Investigation out of Fort Wayne.

The suspicious package had been placed on the USPS dock at an unknown time by an unknown person, the release states. Markings on the package caused employees to be suspicious of its contents.

With the use of a bomb dog by ISP, as well as other EOD resources, the package was rendered safe and did not present a danger to anyone once successfully opened and examined, according to the release.

The scene was turned over to the U.S. Postal Inspection Service who also assisted Warsaw Police in the investigation.

Warsaw-Wayne Fire Territory also was on scene for assistance.
