Suspect Sought In Winona Car Break-Ins

Posted

WINONA LAKE - Police are searching for a suspect who broke into five vehicles in Winona Lake early Tuesday morning.

The five vehicles were at homes near Southtown Estates when someone broke into them and stole various items.

Police reported the first call came at 5:30 a.m. Tuesday from Ray Gsell on Roy Street. Gsell told police that his car was parked in the driveway when someone broke a passenger's side window and took his stereo.

Police then responded to a call from Kenneth Beres on Westwood Drive. Beres' vehicle was parked across the street from his house when a large rock was apparently used to break the passenger's side front window. The side mirror was also broken off the vehicle.

Beres did not report anything missing from his vehicle.

After responding to Beres' call, the deputy marshal on patrol spotted a pickup on Roy Street with its front windows broken out.

The pickup belonged to Culligan Water, but was driven by Phil White. He told police there were tool boxes missing from the back seat, along with the tools in the boxes. He also reported a two-way radio missing from the pickup.

Shortly after investigating the incident at White's house, police were called to Curtis Meyer's home on Widaman Street.

Meyer said that a stereo and air compressor were taken from his pickup over night. He told police he left the passenger's side door unlocked during the night.

The final vandalism report came after noon Tuesday from the home of Bryan Beeson on Sharon Street.

Beeson reported to police that the windshield of his pickup was broken, apparently by a large rock, while the pickup was parked outside his house.

Anyone with information on the break-ins should contact the Winona Lake Police Department at 267-8622.
