PIERCETON - Police are looking for a suspect in connection with a Sunday morning stabbing in Pierceton.
Joshua King, 26, of First Street, Pierceton, suffered a stab wound to the stomach in the 2:15 a.m. incident that began outside his residence and ended at The Post, where King ran for help. He is hospitalized in Fort Wayne.
According to Pierceton Deputy Marshal Tim Sammons, King was at home watching television when he and his girlfriend heard a commotion outside. They reportedly looked out and saw a group of people on the sidewalk in front of The Post, from which several people were apparently told to leave.
A while later, King and his girlfriend were leaving his residence when four or five men began to harass him behind his residence. One of the men allegedly punched King in the head and King told police he pulled out his keys and held them as if he had a knife.
The alleged assailants then began to yell for help and some of the people who were outside The Post ran over to where King and the other men were. King then ran to The Post in an attempt to get away from the men and he was able to get through the first of two doors before the man who was chasing him caught up to him. Between the two doors, the man allegedly punched King in the stomach then ran off.
King went through the next door and asked for help because he was afraid that the men who were chasing him would hurt him. He then realized that he was bleeding from his stomach and an ambulance was called to the business.
King was taken to Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw, and later airlifted to Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, where he was listed in fair condition this morning. He reportedly suffered damage to his intestine and loss of blood.
Sammons said police are investigating several leads as to the suspect in this case.
Anyone with information about this matter is asked to call the Pierceton Police Department at 574-594-2232.
Officers from Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department and North Webster Police Department assisted at the scene.
