Supports Nisly

Editor, Times-Union:

When I think of someone to serve as a state representative, I want someone who understands that their first duty is to uphold the Constitution. I want someone who will be a representative to Indianapolis, not a spokesman from Indianapolis. And in the 22nd District, that person that is the best person for the job is Curt Nisly.

If one were to thoroughly examine Curt Nisly’s record, he has upheld his oath to the Constitution, while representing us in Indianapolis. Curt Nisly was one of four Republicans who opposed the gas tax. Curt Nisly was one of two Republicans to oppose having the governor appoint the superintendent of public instruction and still make it a direct decision of the voters. Curt Nisly was the only representative to oppose a ban on schools using school safety funds to hire law enforcement and school resource officers because schools need quick responses from law enforcement in times of crisis.

And when it comes to being in a crisis, Curt Nisly has shown that he has the leadership we need. Curt Nisly was the first to call out the governor over his excessive power grab when he declared on his own what businesses were essential. Curt Nisly was one of six House Republicans to call on the governor to call a special session to help fight the coronavirus crisis. Curt Nisly is first representative to call on the governor to overturn the decision from the medical and pharmacy boards with their ban on hydroxychloroquine for coronavirus patients. Curt Nisly knows that you can do a better job at determining how to protect yourself than the government. Curt Nisly knows every Hoosier worker is essential.

We can have a state representative who will defend our rights, stand up to the establishment, and not abandon his principles in order to get his legislation passed. Or we can have one who thinks the government can grant rights, supports abortion for instances that have not happened in Indiana and wants to have government be our mother. I can tell you the last candidate who said they were going to be a mother to Hoosier children, lost in their party primary, as a Republican. We can have someone who will be our representative, or we can have someone who will be a spokesman from Indianapolis who has views that are more reflective of California, or Chicago or New York. The choice is obvious. I am supporting freedom and the champion of the Constitution in Curt Nisly and I hope that you do too.
